The Galashiels Academy War Memorial was erected by the Former Pupils Club in 1946. At that time Galashiels Academy was situated in Roxburgh Street, approximately where the modern ambulance station is now situated. In 1964 a purpose built comprehensive school opened  within the grounds of New Gala House and the plaque was moved to its current position within a main thoroughfare of the new school.

As this plaque is within the school buildings it is not normally possible to visit this memorial - these picture were taken by a member of the school staff. (However we can provide the original high resolution photos taken in preparation for this page by email if you want them). Our email address is on the front page.
